The Story Behind
Est. 1847 · Paris
Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, who took over his master's workshop on the Rue Montorgueil. Three generations later, Louis, Pierre, and Jacques Cartier had turned it into a global empire — earning the title "Jeweler of Kings" from King Edward VII of England.
In watchmaking, Cartier pioneered the wristwatch as a status object. The Santos (1904), Tank (1917), and Panthère became cultural icons, blending geometric precision with Parisian elegance. Each Cartier watch is as much a work of art as an instrument of time.
